Shopping at dongdaemun

Eric bought two pairs of prescription glasses for less than $45 each. Made in half an hour. These cute ones with a bow were not chosen

Riding the metro

Love the Seoul subway  just like in the US we're all on our phones

Small vegetable vendors

Outside the market there are many small displays of food for sale

Pics of our lunch

We had a grilled flounder sashimi abalone sea squirt and fish soup made out of our bones. Really great food

Lunch at the market

After you buy your fish you take it to a restaurant in the market and they cook it for you. Eric Ryan and I enjoyed this feast

Noryangjin Fish Market

We toured this large market full of a variety of fresh fish. Much of it still alive in tanks

Night food tour

Daniel took us to 4 eating establishments. We took a night food tour with a Korean American who moved here from Delaware - loved it and started a business that introduces tourists to Korean cooking and dining.  We traveled to some great local establishments to eat BBQ,  rice cakes, grilled fish and pancakes

Breakfast

Eric and Ryan eating bbq for breakfast

Cold buckwheat noodle soup

Yes I know; it doesn't sound delicious, but it is.  Served in an icy broth with sesame seeds.  This was my favorite dish.  I was surprised at how good this tasted, since cold noodles did not sound tasty, especially for breakfast.  I understand that cold noodle soup is a summer specialty.  It goes to show one should always try a dish.  That's a hardboiled egg on top - cut in a beautiful design. Food presentation seems very important here.

Eggs

This egg dish was part of our breakfast.  The fluffy eggs in a small bowl are shared by everyone at the table, eaten by itself or combined with the other dishes.

Breakfast in Korea

Ate BBQ and  cold noodle soup. Very yummyThis is the cook at your table BBQ meats which are dipped in sauce and placed on a lettuce leave with small amounts of side dishes, such as kimchi, bean spouts, egg, radish.  It's then wrapped up and popped in your mouth for a delicious blend of flavors.  This restaurant is in the Hangdae area - around Honggik University.

To South Korea to set up Food & Culture travel course.

Eric and I are getting on a plane tomorrow morning, traveling to South Korea to set up a spring 2014 travel course to South Korea.  Here's the Guesthouse that we'll be staying in for our trip.

It's located in an area of town called Sinchon.
