Well...unfortunately our time in Seoul is over. Reflecting back on the past week of food, tours, and cultural experiences, your final assignment is to post two to three paragraphs sharing your thoughts on the trip: What did you learn about Korean culture? What surprised you? What did you learn about yourself? What had the most impact? etc.
Thanks for being such a great group! It was a pleasure sharing this experience with you all.
This being my first trip to a non-English speaking country I held few expectations. I decided to just attempt to leave any of my cultural expectations behind and do my best to blindly immerse myself in whatever experience came my way. I also tried to experience as many things unique to Korea and Seoul as I possibly could. I must say that I believe I approached this trip right as I was able to learn a lot and really enjoy the time that I spent there.
ReplyDeleteI was pleasantly surprised how easily I was able to get around Seoul and interact with the people. My knowledge essentially consisted of a few common Korean courtesies, and the words for "hello," "please give me," "how much," "where is," and "thank you," however I faced few challenges in navigating Seoul and interacting with the population. To this point, I was also surprised with the similarities in modern Korean culture and American culture which very much exemplifies the prevalence of today's globalization of society and culture. Before this trip, I was uncertain as to whether I could enjoy myself in traveling to a non-English speaking culture, and while English is prevalent in Seoul, I am now excited to travel as much of the world as I possibly can.
At first, i was real spectral about the Korea trip. The first things that pop in my head was North Korea and how over populated it was going to be. But when arriving gave me a whole new prospective of Korea. The cite move at fast pace during the day and at night but quite in the morning. Every where you go someone was their selling some type of food or merchandise. I didn't not and never enjoy the Beondegi, the smell and the taste was the combination of the word"NO". Hats off to Zach, Eric and Nick( The Korean Ox God) for eating more than 10 a piece. Afterwards, we were serve fried chicken and beer, the cheese chicken strips was delicious. we tour around the city by train, bus, walking and even by bike. the most challenging experience was the mountain hike wow i can't believe there's people 70's to there 80's hiking this mountain with no problem, the people thier are in great shape.
ReplyDeletei learn a lot going to this trip and made good friends, I gather a closer understanding to a culture who are more about using the their own resource.
The Koreans mix modern culture with the past though their music, housing, and eating gestures. Receiving the many different prospective on Korea policies tells a lot how the Americans and war effected the culture difference. Overall I had a great time still remembering eating the raw octopus umm and the Buddhist part had the most effect on me from the flower to the results of eating all the "greens". This trip really open my reality.
