Italian Market

Sherri insisted we stop by the Italian market - and we found these olives displayed in barrels.  Although they were lined in plastic, it did remind the students of the traditional wooden barrels from the morning's lecture on packaging and storage history.

  1. The Italian market is one of my favorite places to visit at the market. I love all of the fresh cheeses and sausages. The olive bar is awesome too. I purchased some cherry peppers stuffed with provolone and proscuitto one of my favorites.

    1. I totally agree...I love the Italian market, since I was pretty young! There is so much there to see, things you would not find anywhere else most likely! It is a very lively place too which is always a lot of fun!

The Italian market was also one of my favorite places. I was really tempted to buy some of the sausage and bacon that they were selling there. I was completely surprised by the octopus tenticles that were in one of the barrels there; I didn't expect to see anything like that at any of the markets.

  2. I really enjoyed visiting the Italian market as well. As I mentioned in my response in a different post, I don't really cook but I would definitely be interested in going back to this market and picking up some items to make dinner one night. I absolutely love Italian food and this market definitely had a lot of fresh and delicious looking items from me to chose from!

    1. Yes! It was huge. It reminded me of the time I ordered calamari in Italy. I imagined it to be little pieces, fried and battered like when you order calamari from a restaurant here in the states. Little did I know I would be served a full squid, slighly cooked. Looked just like the one in the market!

  4. I almost bought a pistachio cannoli at the Italian Market. I decided instead to by some cupcakes from the gourmet cupcake shop off the market "Baby Cakes." When we visit the market, my wife and I always park near the shop and buy some to share with our girls.

  5. The visit to City Market exceded my expectations. I have lived downtown for over a year and never been. I had no idea what to expect. I really enjoyed this visit and will definitley go back soon.
I also really enjoyed the Blue Nile restaurant. The food was delicious!
