  1. I enjoyed everything about the class and our field trip especially the tasty Euthopian cuisine and interesting presentation. The Chinese Market amazed me and had way more food options that I could have imagined. I purchased the raw ginger root. It looked very fresh and was reasonably priced. I will use some in tea and other favs like the beef stew I am making this week with fresh beef soup bones.

    1. One thing I did learn from this experience is.... I hate ginger! I tried ginger tea, candied ginger... and both times i gagged. At least I tried it twice before I came to my conclusion:) Maybe I am just used to having artificial ginger, because I do love some ginger ale!

    2. How interesting. You know ginger is commonly used for sea sickness as it seems to help some folks with nausea.

  2. I was really very skeptical about the Ethiopian food, but was really amazed to find it to be good. One of the things that I was so not expecting to find at the Chinese Food Market was a can of Ovaltene! I did expect to find the packaging to be in clear plastic with writing that was of no use to me =} I am sorry that I did not have the opportunity to pick up "fresh", live lobster and crab" , maybe next time.
I did buy some spices, who could resist at a $1.00 or $2.00 a scoop, other than that I found the prices to be on the high side, event though I do think that I would have liked to have tried some of the pistachios and some others.

    1. I thought the prices were great for the items I purchased! I bought italian sausage $4, bacon $2.50 and pistachios for $3! Next time I go, I want to stock up on some spices. It would be fun to make my own spice rack with fresh spices.

  3. I enjoyed this weekends activities much more than I had anticipated. At first I was not looking forward to having Ethiopian food, mainly because I thought it might taste like curry(not sure where that idea came from.) AFter the experience, I REALLY enjoyed myself! I am even going there next weekend on a double date.. which i think will be really fun! This experience exceeded my expectations. I already knew that I would like the farmers market. I have never been to one before, and each time I thought about going I would just decide to go to the store because it would be quicker. I loved all of the variety and the prices were much cheaper than I have seen in the grocery stores. The food was so fresh and made it exciting to want to add new items into my meals. I purchased a variety of nuts, bacon, and italian sausage from the market.. all were great! I purchased the nuts because my fiance loves to snack on them, the bacon because I LOVE BACON, and the italian sausage because I was already planning on buying sausage for dinner so why not get it from the market! I did not enjoy the chinese market as much as I did the farmers market. The packaging there was in another language most of the time and it was very hard for me to become curious. Also, the packaging had less of an appeal at the chinese market than what I am used to seeing in my grocery store. The packaging at the farmers market was almost non existant, mostly see through bags, paper bags or plastic. Which I thought translated well to all of their freshly grown foods. Although I didnt find anything there that i woud purchase on this trip, I might go back to buy some fish! It looked so fresh!

    1. I also liked the Ethiopian food a lot and talked to my husband about going there some time. He also likes to try new and exotic foods. Isn't that farmer's market fantastic? I used to go there on weekends but you know, life happens, and it is hard to make the drive out there. But walking around there again on Saturday made me want to start making the effort to travel that way more often. Everything looks so fresh and you are right about those prices, they are phenomenal!
