Gwangjang Market

We went to a traditional Market to eat last night. On the way we stopped at a hanbok store where women buy fabric to have made into the traditional clothing. The market is bustling with activity and there are multiple food stalls and other vendors selling a variety of goods. At our first stop we ate two different types of Korean soups - a cold noodle soup and one with handmade noodles- as well as  wonderful dumplings. Then we tried chicken feet and pig's feet. And finally we stopped at a stall that served a variety of tasty fried snacks

  1. I loved touring the markets. The atmosphere was breathtaking. Most of the food was delicious. I definitely went out of my comort zone will trying the chickens feet and pigs feet. The creepy and bizarre expirence of the music cart and the girl singing is something I remember for years.

    1. I was not as brave as most of you guys. The pigs feet and chicken feet were a bit too scary for me.

    2. Seriously though. The music cart was so weird, I thought it was even weirder that we saw the same sort of thing again in Namdaemun.

  2. This was definitely a place for the senses. Food was everywhere! I had the best conversation with a Korean man next to me, that lasted for at least 20 minutes. He impressed me with his knowledge of the U.S and his enthusiasm about Hollywood.

    1. The people there was eccentric and fun. I had an older gentleman who didn’t speak english try and have me point out what country I was from with the hundreds of flags hanging from the ceiling.

  3. I did not enjoy eating in this market. In the first street food, I ate only two pieces of vegetable dumplings. The cold soup was good. I did not imagine it would be that taste. But for the second street food, I could not eat anything.

  4. This was definitely one of the most memorable experiences of the trip. I loved that Hallie and Ariel took us up to see some stalls where hanbok are made. It was super cool to get to hear about some of Korea's traditons from Hallie who has expeienced some of them first hand!
The dinner we had that night had its ups and downs for sure. At the first stall I really liked the cold soup and the seriously delicious mung bean jeon. We also had our first experience with those random people that were painted like clowns who went around singing. The chickens feet and pork feet were rough but the delicious hotteok we ended the night with more than made up for anything funky we ate earlier in the evening!

  6. Hallie and Ariel definitely made us step out of our comfort zones for this one. I found the pig and chicken feet absolutely repulsive. Although, this will probably be one of my most talked about experiences from the trip!
