I really enjoyed the food history presentations last night from our students. Did anyone else get hungry? A have a few more foods on my list to try on this trip.
I learned a lot from the last night's presentations and has given me some more things to look out for and look forward to. I loved learning about kimchi and its incredible cultural impact. The video from Great Big Story was very inspiring and gave me a new appreciation for the food. I was surprised while hearing everyone's presentations that rice cakes are in a lot of different dishes. Speaking of rice, I was extremely surprised that Soju was made with rice. Before this class, I had no knowledge of Korean food other than Korean bbq. I have been surprised with the unique palette of the country and I'm very excited to experience the food first hand.
I enjoyed learning about all the different foods last night. I thought the Budae Jjigae was the most interesting of them all. I was amazed by the video. I find the combination of ingredients fascinating. I love how a majority of their deep fried foods are on sticks to prevent waste. I thought it was cool that there is a Kimchi museum. With all of the presentations, it just goes to show that rice is a stable.
I was about to starve during all the presentations Wednesday night. I enjoyed all of them, and I am very excited to expand my food "palette". I am eager to try Hotteok and Twigim specifically. I really got a kick out of hearing all the different cultural stories surrounding the specific dishes.
After Wednesdays presentations I am more ready than ever to hop on a plane to South Korea and go gobble up all of the delicious foods that we learned about. I am particularly excited to try more jeon because we all liked the veggie one at the restaurant so much! On the flip side, I went in thinking budae jigae sounded absolutely delicious and left wondering if I still thought that. Either way, I am still excited to try as much as I can. T-minus 6 days!!!
This was one of the nights that made me ready to go to Korea. It was great to learn more in detail about the different foods that Korea offers. I couldn't wait for everything that we talked about and then when we were in Korea we were able to enjoy what was presented on.
