After the rain let up, we made our way to the market to eat lunch. Each student purchased replicas of old coins which they exchanged with the vendors in the market for various foods to add to their lunch trays.
I loved how we payed with ancient coins! I wish I would have kept one...oh well. The vendors were so sweet and really showed interest in their food. This place had THE best rice cakes! Its so cool how food I everywhere, although it may be similar from one vendor to another, they all had various flavors.
It was a nice little place. Using the coins to buy things is a cool idea. It was a great way to try different foods. I ended up getting a mystery fried food that turned out to be octopus. This was my least favorite place to eat during the trip though probably due to arriving after normal lunch hour.
I made sure I asked what things were just for that reason! at least you broadened your palette. I had the best veggie noodles there from a woman who put on gloves and grabbed a handful and just put it on my plate!
the Tongin Market experience was good for me, but unfortunately, I could not eat a proper meal since most of the meat was pork. The most exciting part of the market was the way of pay and trade money.
I did notice that there was a lot of pork also. I wonder what the variety would have been like if we were there just a few minutes earlier. The rain from the palace truly killed our plans!
Using coins to purchase our meal was very intriguing. I was blown away by all of the different food we had at the end. I was also surprised to see so many different types of Gimbap. I was not ready for the crab and spam in mine!

ReplyDeleteThe rice cakes were fantastic, some of the best for sure. Interacting with the street vendors was very delightful.
